Robert Meehan grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and became interested in music while a student at Boston Latin School, when he heard career talks by that school’s distinguished alumni, Leonard Bernstein and Arthur Fiedler. He became more interested after attending Boston Pops concerts and, upon entering Bowdoin College, joined that college’s glee club and became a percussionist in the school’s band. He was the student conductor of the Bowdoin College Band his senior year. While attending Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania he was choir director and organist of the school’s Newman Club.
From 1964 to 1979 he was a member of the chorus and orchestra of the Philharmonic Society of Arlington in Arlington, Massachusetts. Moving to Atlanta in 1979, he has been tympanist/percussionist with the North DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlanta Community Orchestra. He has been a member of the DeKalb Choral Guild, the All Saints Catholic Church Choir and the All Saints Catholic Church Schola Cantorum, serving as Assistant Conductor of the latter two ensembles.
He joined the Callanwolde Concert Band as tympanist/percussionist in 1980 and has been an Assistant Conductor of the Band since 1983.
Kurt Wackerly graduated from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and became a member of the Ohio Music Education Association, the Hancock County Music Teachers Association, and the Findlay Community Band. While in Ohio, he was the band director and choral instructor for grades 5 through 12 in the McComb Local School District near Lima, Ohio. He relocated to Atlanta in 2001 to pursue professional opportunities, and, before joining the Callanwolde Concert Band, performed with multiple community musical ensembles in similar roles, including the Atlanta Concert Band, (2007 – 2011), Atlanta Wind Symphony, and Atlanta Freedom Band, where he also currently performs as French Horn player and Associate Director. he is also a founding member of the Pine Lake Brass Quintet. In his business career, he is a senior manager at Condominium Concepts Management, Inc., a professional property management company.
Stan Kramer joins the Callanwolde Concert Band as Assistant Conductor and trumpet player in the fall of 2017. Stan is currently Director of Bands at Union Grove High School in McDonough, GA a position that he has held since the school opened in August of 2000. Prior to his tenure at Union Grove High School, Stan served as assistant director at Jonesboro High School and director at Burke County Middle School. Stan is a native of Clayton County Georgia and a graduate of Morrow High School. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Reinhardt University.
Stan has worked for 30 years as a music clinician and adjudicator in Georgia and South Carolina. His past and present professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, International Association of Jazz Educators, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Band Association, the International Trumpet Guild, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity.
In addition to his membership in CCB, Stan is a member of the Tara Winds Community Band and the Sentimental Journey Orchestra. Stan has performed with The Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus; musical artists including The Temptations, The O’Jays, Mel Torme, Shirley Jones, Pat Boone, Marvin Hamlisch, the Boys Choir of Harlem, Larnel Harris, South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, the Columbia Brass Band and with numerous other community and professional groups.
